When Grupo Imagen commissioned the redesign of Mexico City’s second largest daily to Danilo Black, the challenge was as much for design as for the production process: making a design that fit the sophisticated reader, yet simple enough so that it could sustain the simplicity of the editorial process.
Enter Ready-Media templates. Danilo Black provided a library of 900 re-designed pages which designers and editors quickly adapted to speed-up the page make-up process. “The results were astonishing,” points out Alex Medrano, Excélsior’s design and operations director. “We increased the productivity of our designers to nearly 500%, and counted with a strong design-production platform that enabled us to grow other areas of our publication.”
Shortly after the redesign launch, Danilo Black’s design work for Excélsior was awarded with a Gold Medal from the Society for News Design (SND) for its redesign. “The quality and consistency of such sophisticated design could only be achieved on a daily basis with the installation of a template-driven process” says Víctor Sánchez, Danilo Black’s art director and project leader.
Danilo Black’s excellence in design, combined with the high-quality standards of Ready-Media’s templates have helped tens of publications to streamline production, lower the cost of page make-up process and sustain the design quality of their design, regardless of their size or production scale.
